JULIA LEVANDER DREW
TEXTILE ARTIST
UNTAMED STITCHES
ABOUT
Swedish by origin, I've called the wild and beautiful Highlands of Scotland home since 2004, where I reside with my husband and two daughters. As a self-taught textile artist, I create unique pieces freehand, guided by the motto 'I make what I want.' My process is very organic and without sketches or patterns, every piece simply lives in my head before I extract them. It can get crowded in there... Making is my essential well-being practice, and I'm forever grateful and humbled to earn a living doing what I love.
My textile animal sculptures reflect joy and creativity, often exploring contrasting characters. Recently, my environmental concerns have deepened into a commitment to animal rights. I believe in the urgent need for significant lifestyle changes. Through my art, I aim to provoke contemplation on our relationship with animals and the planet.
Follow my creative journey on social media, be warned, I love to swear and sometimes dance with my bullwhip... see you there, I hope. x
